Network Pipeline Classroom Setup Instructions

Please note that all class dates are subject to change and should be confirmed by calling (1) 888-757-7020, especially BEFORE making travel arrangements.

Open classroom facility addresses are not available until three weeks prior to class.

In preparation for the class, please take the following steps:

Registration:

Each student must have a valid voucher number from Ipswitch, for example, ORXXXXXX or if purchased directly from Network Pipeline, a voucher number from NPI, for example, NPXXXXXX. This will be used for completing a required field in the registration form.

After obtaining your voucher number, please go to the training schedule and register for class by doing the following:

  1. Locate the class you will be taking by date
  2. Select the link for class type you purchased - 2 Day Online, 3 Day Online, or the 2 Day or 3 Day for the City you wish to attend class
  3. Complete the form to register for that class
  4. If you are an online student, please make sure you supply and verify the shipping address so we can ship the classroom materials to you
  5. Please note that the shipping address should be the location where the student wil be one day prior to the class dates you selected
  6. Please allow for five business days shipping or an additional shipping charge may be applicable
  7. For Internation students, please allow seven business days for customs

Prepare each student computer:

All students will need a Laptop or Desktop. Each student will require at the minimum, Local Administrator Rights abd access for their student PC.

One of the following Windows Operating Systems are minimum requirements - Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 or 2008, Windows 7 or Vista, all with the latest Service Packs. Non-Windows PCs or "Home Edition" Windows OS systems are not compatible.

Microsoft Office 2003 or higher should be loaded for class labs.

Please note that PC Firewalls and Anti-Virus programs may impact the ability to perform the labs. The student will also likely have Remote Desktop Access to their site depending on their organization's security policies. Plan for Students PCs to use Ping (TCP port 7) and SNMP (UDP Ports 161 and 162) for the exercises.

Each Online student will need Internet access, Open Classroom students will be provided Internet access during the class, usually hardwire but also Wireless, if that is all that is available. Plan for both. The Instructor will provide Open Classroom students with an Ethernet cable.

Online students will need to place a long distance telephone call to join the GoToMeeting session for the duration of the class. Speakerphones are not allowed, so plan for a headset.

Students should download and install the following programs PRIOR to class to minimize classroom troubleshooting due to rights and configuration issues:

  • WhatsUp Gold Premium 30 Day Evaluation with optional Plug-Ins in advance including the separate downloads for Flow Publisher and WhatsConnected - Click Here
  • Please install all Ipswitch products downloaded at least two days in advance on your student PC and take the default (Note: the evaluations are good for 30 days total from the date of install)
  • Install the SNMP Windows Component on your student PC in advance for WhatsUp Gold Classes
  • Use of the Client Production System for class is discouraged
  • Download the following zip file - http://www.networkpipeline.com/_downloads/classroom.zip for lab exercises - SNMP Viewer, TrapGen, SNMP-Informant
  • If you are attending Day 3, please download the appropriate version of Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio for 2005 for the Microsoft Operating System you have installed on the student PC, including 32 or 64 bit found at Microsoft's website.

For 2 Day Online or 3 Day Online Students Only

  1. Times of the class - 10:00am - 5:00pm EST, each day of class, with 1 hour for lunch and two ten minute breaks
  2. Try to have access to at least one or more network devices with known IP, SNMP Read Only community strings that can be used in the labs
  3. Please join the online meeting at the time and date above using the link you will receive in a forthcoming email after you register
  4. Speakerphones are not allowed and a headset is recommended
  5. Please expect an overnight package from NPI no later than on the afternoon of class.  This package includes the classroom materials you will need for class.

For 2 Day Open or 3 Day Open Classroom Or Onsite Client Hosted Classes Students Only

  1. Times of the class - 8:45am - 4:15pm Local Classroom City Time Zone each day of class, with 1 hour for lunch and two ten minute breaks
  2. The Instructor will supply lunch for all three days of class.

2 Day or 3 Day Onsite Client Hosted Classes Only

The additional requirements for Onsite Client Hosted Classes are as follows:

  • A projector and screen, if needed, for the Instructor for PowerPoint and onscreen demos, should be available unless otherwise arranged
  • An Instructor PC with the same requirements as the student PCs should be available for the Instructor
  • Ideally, the Instructor will have also have temporary Local Administrator or Domain Administrator Access to the Instructor PC
  • Microsoft Office 2007 or higher should be loaded, including PowerPoint and Excel for class demonstrations
  • Ideally, a spare router or switch with SNMP configured could be made available for the labs
  • Ideally, Internet access will also be available for classroom students and Instructor
  • The classroom facilities should seat the number of students planned comfortably for the 2 or 3 days of class
